Opening Sequence

Scene 1: The Land of the Dead

Miguel (Voiceover): In the heart of Mexico, there is a magical land called the Land of the Dead, where our ancestors live on after death.

*Imagery: A festive Day of the Dead celebration with marigolds, sugar skulls, and families gathering.

Scene 2: Miguel’s Home

*Imagery: A small Mexican village, with colorful buildings and a bustling market.

Miguel (Voiceover): My name is Miguel, and I live in a small town called Santa Cecilia.

Mamá Coco (Miguel’s Grandmother): Miguelito, remember, we don’t talk about the dead.

Miguel: But why? I want to know about my family.

Abuelo (Miguel’s Grandpa): Family is what you make it, not what you’re born into.

Miguel: I just want to be remembered.

Scene 3: The Day of the Dead Party

*Miguel’s family is preparing for the Day of the Dead party, but Miguel is excluded due to his family’s beliefs.

Miguel: I want to make a Day of the Dead altar for my family, but they won’t let me.

Scene 4: The Museum of Memory

*Miguel visits the Museum of Memory, where he learns about his great-grandfather, Ernesto de la Cruz.

Ernesto’s Storyteller (Voiceover): Ernesto de la Cruz was a musician who left his family behind to chase his dreams.

Miguel: He was a singer, like me.

Scene 5: The Enchanted Guitar

*Miguel finds a magical guitar in the museum and is transported to the Land of the Dead.

Miguel (Voiceover): I have to find Ernesto and ask him to give me the guitar back.

Scene 6: The Land of the Dead

*Miguel meets Ernesto and learns that he was betrayed by his friend, Hector, who stole his music.

Ernesto: I was tricked. I thought I was making music for the people, but I was just pleasing the elite.

Miguel: I want to make music for everyone, just like you.

Ernesto: You must find Hector to retrieve the guitar.

Scene 7: The River of Souls

*Miguel and Ernesto cross the River of Souls to find Hector.

Hector: I don’t care about the guitar. I just want to be remembered.

Miguel: I understand. I want to be remembered too.

Scene 8: The Day of the Dead Altar

*Miguel returns to the Land of the Dead and builds a Day of the Dead altar for his family.

Miguel: I built this altar for you, Grandpa. I made it with your photos and your stories.

Scene 9: The Return

*Miguel returns to the Land of the Living with the guitar, and his family forgives him.

Mamá Coco: Miguelito, you are our family, and we are proud of you.

Miguel: I love you all.

Closing Sequence

Scene 10: The Land of the Living

*Miguel performs at the Day of the Dead party, and his family watches proudly.

Miguel (Voiceover): Family is what you make it, and love is what you remember.
